The European Conference on Applications of Surface and Interface Analysis has long served as a cornerstone event for the scientific community, drawing researchers, engineers, and industry professionals from across the continent and beyond. This gathering provides a unique forum for exchanging ideas on the latest developments in surface science, from fundamental principles to applied methodologies. Participants have the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research, explore emerging analytical techniques, and discuss challenges that span both academic and industrial contexts. The collaborative atmosphere fosters lasting connections and encourages interdisciplinary approaches to complex problems in surface and interface analysis.

A key strength of the conference lies in its comprehensive scientific programme, which typically features plenary lectures from distinguished speakers, invited presentations on specialised topics, and contributed talks that highlight recent advances. Poster sessions offer a more informal setting for in-depth discussions, while special sessions focus on timely themes and novel applications. The breadth of subjects covered ranges from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and depth profiling to data analysis tools and gas-surface interactions. This diversity ensures that attendees, whether newcomers or seasoned experts, find content that is both relevant and intellectually stimulating.

Pre-conference short courses form an integral part of the experience, delivering hands-on training and practical insights into widely used surface analysis techniques. These sessions are led by experienced practitioners who guide participants through theoretical foundations, instrument operation, and data interpretation strategies. Topics often include quantitative XPS analysis, spectral processing with dedicated software packages, and the fundamentals of surface interactions. Such courses are particularly valuable for early-career researchers and students seeking to build confidence in their analytical skills before engaging with the main conference programme.

Beyond the scientific agenda, the event offers a rich social programme that encourages informal networking and cultural exchange. Participants can enjoy organised dinners, sightseeing opportunities, and social activities that showcase the character of the host city. The accompanying exhibition brings together instrument manufacturers, software developers, and service providers, creating a vibrant marketplace of ideas and technologies. Student travel grants and poster awards further support the next generation of surface analysts, while partnership opportunities allow organisations to demonstrate their commitment to advancing the field on an international stage.
